How to run your first virtual 10K

A clear plan for beginners — from choosing a distance to uploading GPS proof and earning your medal.

01Pick a realistic distance

If you can already run or walk 5K comfortably, 10K is a strong next step. Beyond Run events often offer multiple distances so you can choose what fits your fitness — not someone else’s ego.

02Train with a simple weekly structure

Three easy runs, one longer weekend effort, and one optional strength or mobility session is enough for most first-timers. Keep easy days truly easy so your long run feels doable.

03Race day is any day in the window

Virtual races don’t need a start corral. Pick a day with good weather, start rested, and run a familiar route with clear GPS signal — parks and quieter roads work best.

04Upload a clean GPS proof

Your screenshot should show the full map, total distance, and moving time. Strava, Garmin, NRC, and similar apps all work. Blurry or cropped screenshots slow verification.

05Celebrate the finish properly

Once verified, download your certificate, check the leaderboard, and track medal shipping from your dashboard. Then book your next distance while the momentum is high.
